How To Properly Care For Your Car Transmission

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

The car transmission is very important. When it needs repair or replacement, you have to spend hundreds of dollars. It is always better to have a regular maintenance for your car than to have a huge bill for repairs that are extensive. This article will teach you how to take care of automatic transmissions.

One way to prolong the life of your car’s transmission is to change the transmission fluid and filter. Be wary of the fluid level and the condition of the filter. The fluids must be red in color and not dirty brown. Otherwise, you need to immediately change both fluids and filter for a cleaner and better transmission.

You also need to check on leaks under the car. The automatic transmission will be affected if there are leaks. From time to time, make sure to check for any signs of leaks so you can quickly fix it if necessary.

Make sure that you are shifting gears correctly. Make sure that you are shifting gears correctly. The right time to shift gears is when you are in a stop already. Do not shift from reverse to drive when your car is still moving because this will overstress the transmission clutch and gear.

Also do not overuse overdrive since this will put stress on your transmission. Use overdrive under normal driving situations to allow the engine to run with lower revolutions per minute. There will be instances that the car may run with low revolutions per minute at high speed. This will all depend on the car that you are using. But you have to switch overdrive off if the car is heavier or driving on a high terrain.

Services You Can Get From Auto Repair Shops

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

It can be difficult to do professional auto repair shops even for people who are in the industry. But they are a very great help when you need to have your vehicle get fixed. This article will show you the services rendered by auto repair shops. If you will compare an auto repair from professionals to a self-service repair at home, there will be difference between the two.

The works of auto repair technicians and mechanics entirely involve the repair and installation of parts of a vehicle. This includes car parts like a break system, a motor, an electrical system, engine and other mechanical system. Although you can do this on your own, the services given by professionals are better.

One reason why professional auto repair technicians make better works is because they underwent countless trainings and experiences. In order for them to fix a vehicle, they should know what exactly they are doing. They don’t just install parts for your cars, but they follow that correct protocol.

The services of auto repair shops will assure you a guaranteed vehicle overhaul. They make sure that they take care your car when fixing it. They encourage the people to trust them by giving a warranty. You can do some basic vehicle repair jobs on your own. However, for the complex repairs, you need to leave your car to them as there is a warranty involved.

In order to fix your car properly, most of the auto mechanics are using appropriate and efficient ways. But there are some people who are new to the job and you may not know that at all. A well trained person who knows how to fix your car is the one that you should take good care of.

If there’s a need to have your vehicle to be fixed, the only place that you must go is an auto repair shop. Remember that people working in auto repair shops have the full knowledge and skills to solve your vehicle problem. In short, the best people that helps you to maintain your car in good condition are the mechanics and auto repair technicians.

Ways on how to extend the life of your car

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

One of the greatest creation ever was the automobile.  I know that was a long time ago but without it, this world would be different.  But what people don’t realize is how those cars can break down and cost a lot of money. There are some parts of the car that need to be looked after. When these parts of the car break they can really cost a ton of money.  So here are some parts you really need to take care of.

The first big part of your car you need to be real careful with is your transmission.  This is the part of your car that helps your car shift gears. But it is also the part that usually costs a lot when it goes bad.  It is one of the most expensive repairs in my San Marcos auto repair shop.To preserve this part you have to make certain that it always has the best fluid in it. Also you need to shift gears gently.

The next part that is very expensive to fix is the engine.  Of course everyone pays attention to the engine because it is what runs the car.  But I always tell clients of my San Marcos auto repair shop is to make sure to always take care of your engine. The main way to do that is to make sure you always change the oil.  If you do that it will always be running clean.

Another expensive part to fix are your brakes. As small as this part may seem, it is also very costly to replace.  In my San Marcos transmission repair shop this is another big repair that always comes in. To make sure that this part is in tiptop shape you have to make sure there is always brake fluid.  You also want to make sure you don’t ride your brakes and treat it well.

When those parts break they usually cost a lot and are not fun to deal with.  So follow these steps and you will be sure to have a well maintained car.

Using maintenance records to sell your car

Friday, October 9th, 2009

One trend that is gaining steam is when someone is buying a used car, they want the maintenance records.A lot of people are now interested in seeing if a car has all of it’s maintenance records. Because if you do have someone who did care for their car, you can trust that it should last longer. So if you have a vehicle you own it will be critical to keep a record of all maintenance.Because a lot of buyers will want to take a look at that.

So one of the things you want to make sure to do is to keep a receipt of all service you do for your car.  In my San Diego auto repair business I make sure to give all my clients a receipt of the work that was done.Be certain that the companies you are taking it into will do the same thing. This could be the deciding factor in whether or not you get the price you wanted or have to get something less.

Also, when you have your car taken in for a tune up, don’t forget to keep a record of it.Getting your vehicle tuned up on a regular schedule will help it run longer and smoother. It is also beneficial in making your car pass any sort of smog test a lot easier.  In my San Dieg smog check center I notice cars that weren’t tuned up regularly are the ones that fail the test.

Finally you want to keep good records of when you take your car in for brake maintenance. This is another important part of making sure your car is taken care of.  It is also something a potential buyer will look at.  Because the last thing a new buyer wants is a big expensive brake service they need.  So in my San Diego brake shop I make sure to give a thorough report to all my clients.

Hopefully you see how important maintenance is if you want to sell your car for top dollar.  Buyers want good cars that were maintained.By taking care to keep all maintenance records you will be able to prove that you did maintain it.

Brake Repair Tips

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

There are a lot of parts to your car you need to keep an eye on.  In this day and age of cars having everything automated, a lot of times maintenance of your car gets neglected.  Believe me I have seen it all owning a San Diego auto repair shop.

After all, with cars that used to be cheap cars, like Hyundai’s being state of the art driving machines, it is easy to think nothing can go wrong with them.

That is a big mistake.  There are still going to be parts of your car that need to be paid attention to and maintained.  Most people do pay attention to things like oil changes.  Although that is important for the life of your car, what most people neglect is their brakes.  Which is important to the life of themselves and their family.

So let’s take a look at your brakes and knowing when it is time to change them because they have become unsafe.

The first symptom is when there is grinding or scratching you need to replace your brakes.  Usually this is a sign of the metal plates being gone that are supposed to hold the brake pads and now it rubs against the rotor.  This is not a good sign and you want to have your brakes replaced as soon as possible.

Second symptom is when your brakes make a loud screeching or a high pitch noise.  This is caused by a condition called glazed.  This happens if a person uses the brakes excessively which causes the rotors to get too hot.  The rotors are then burned.

You fix this by going to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop.

A third condition that happens to your brakes is vibrations.  If your drums and rotors are warped, there will be a vibration when you brake. This happens when their is too much heat and this causesthem to lose their shape.  When it occurs, your rotor has to be replaced.

A final issue to examine is when your brakes are pullling.  When you are braking, what will happen is your vehicle is pulled in one direction.  This happens when your brakes caliper is not getting applied evenly.  This is caused by a fluid leak.  To determine which side the leak is coming from, a brake professional needs to take a look.  You take care of this by having the caliper replaced and getting all the air out of the brakes.

These are the usual problems that brakes have.  When this does happen you need a shop that fixes brakes like we fix San Diego brakes.

When you consider your brakes are what prevents you from having accidents and running into things, this is a part of your car’s maintenance, you never want to neglect.
